Meet the Chiropractor: Dr. Ashlin McGrath
My mission is to show families the brighter path by helping them rediscover how their body's are designed to feel, function, and heal naturally. One of the best parts of my job is hearing people say: "Wow, I didn't know that I could feel this good... I wish I had found this sooner."
I grew up dancing from the age of three and eventually moved into competitive dance. By the time I was 15, I started struggling with back pain to the point where I couldn't even stand up straight after bending forward to touch my toes. Around the same time, I began experiencing heavy and painful periods. Sometimes the pain was so bad that I had to leave school or work to go home. I was told this was normal for a teenager and that the contraceptive pill would help.
I started seeing a chiropractor when I was 16, who shared a story very similar to mine, which really stuck with me. Over the following year, I saw not just my back pain go away, but my energy improved and my period pain completely disappeared! This experience shifted my view of health and I realised how truly incredible our body's are... they are designed to heal without relying on medication to just cover up the symptoms.
I was inspired by my chiropractor to go to an open day at the New Zealand College of Chiropractic, which lead to the decision to enrol there and complete my degree to become a chiropractor!
After graduating, I moved across the world to join the ONE Chiropractic Studio Amersfoort team. I was drawn to their neurologically-focused, whole-family approach to chiropractic care. It's been so rewarding being a part of the team that cares for and supports every family member on their journey to better health.
When I'm not in the practice, I'm usually trying to squeeze in as much travel around Europe as possible, getting outside (even in the Dutch rain!), relaxing at a café or learning to play the guitar - slowly getting there.
